In today's "on this day in Tudor history" video, I take you to Spain and back to 1516. I hope you enjoy the video and the photos of the Capilla Real.

If you're interested in the city of Granada and its historical attractions, here are links to more videos and articles on it:

Thank you for the pics. I find the life-like, relaxed postures of Ferdinand and Isabella beautiful and quite moving. As with Philip’s and Joanna’s effigies, the heads are turned away from one another. I wonder if there is any particular meaning in that.

A very lovely video and many thanks for sharing your pictures of the royal tombs of Isabella and Ferdinand and their very simple but beautiful coffins. The image I remember most from Granada is always those very moving and plain but elegant coffins in that tiny crypt. It is so peaceful and lonely down there. Such a contrast with the magnificent effigies in the chapel which I agree are very life like on the pictures. We had a guide but she didn’t rush us, we had plenty of time and she was wonderful. The Alhambra is somewhere I think you could easily get permanently lost in on purpose, it is so magical. I am glad we went back ourselves for a second look.

Thank you! Yes, that sight does stay with you, doesn’t it? Such a contrast to their effigies and very real.
I’ve been to the Alhambra lots of times but I take away something new each time.
