On this day in history, 16th May 1620, navigator William Adams died in Hirado, Japan. Adams is thought to be the first Englishman to have reached Japan (arriving there in 1600) and was the inspiration for the character of John Blackthorne in the famous novel Shōgun.

I was very interested in the video on William Adams, a fascinating video and an excellent book recommendation. I’m afraid the cat’s coming a goings were hilarious, but didn’t really detract from the information. I was also interested in the Thomas More video. I have a book on him in my tbr pile. He is interesting, but I can’t find it in my heart to liked him somehow.
