Artists in the spotlight!

In this first artists in the spotlight, we talked to Siria who is only 13 years old and is from Italy. She makes the most beautiful drawings of the Tudors, so we got in touch with her to chat about her art.

Drawing of Henry VIII's six wives

When did you start making art?
I started drawing when I was 9 years old, because I really liked the subject art in school. I had people who motivated me even if I was not good and now I am who I am.”

Where does your interest in the Tudors come from? When did that start?
“My interest in the Tudors comes from SIX the musical, it started around april last year. I've always liked history so I was particularly interested in the historical figures of the Tudors.”

What inspired you to make drawings of the Tudors?
Their stories are so sad for some and they give me a lot of inspiration. Also their Holbein portraits are really gorgeous.”

Do you have a favourite Tudor monarch? Who?
Yes I have one, I particularly like Catherine of Aragon. I find her a woman with exceptional moral strength and she is a figure from whom I try to take an example. I really have a lot of admiration for Catherine and for all she has endured.”

What is your favourite Tudor drawing you have made?
I really like a drawing I did of Anne Boleyn, I can't explain why but she looks so beautiful and confident in that drawing.”

How long does it take you to make a drawing?
I think it depends on the drawing! For many it takes very little, because I am quick with drawing, but for others it can take up to 5 hours, but that doesn’t weigh me down at all.”

How do you make your artwork? What is the process?
It's very simple, first I do the sketch, then the lineart and then coloring. It is the same process also with traditional drawing. I make my drawings with my phone.”

Are you currently working on any Tudor drawings?
Yes! I was working on a drawing on Mary, Elizabeth and Edward, also a drawing on Henry VIII and Elizabeth of York.”

Do you want to keep making drawings in the future? Maybe even make it your profession?
I would very much like to make my passion my profession. I really like to draw and it makes me feel satisfied.”
